Tano north: Mr Pius Sampson Opoku, the Tano North Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has inaugurated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in the Municipality. The facilities aim to enhance hygiene standards and promote community development.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Municipal Assembly implemented the '2025-2026 WASH Systems Strengthening Project' to construct gender-responsive sanitation facilities. These include hand washing stations, toilets, and solar-powered mechanised borehole water systems. Facilities were set up at Susanho Roman Catholic Basic and Duayaw Nkwanta Islamic Basic Schools, as well as the Tanoano and Nkurakan Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compounds.
Mr Opoku, during the commissioning events, highlighted the collaboration between the Municipal Assembly, IRC Ghana, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in executing these projects. He emphasized the goal of the facilities to improve hygiene and support healthy lifestyles. Mr Opoku commended the partnership's role in improving community living standards and urged continued support for government initiatives.
Madam Vida Duti, the Country Director for IRC Ghana, reiterated the NGO's commitment to promoting safe and proper sanitation in local communities. Mr Albert Damte, the Duayaw-Nkwanta branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, noted the church's financial contributions were made possible through members' fasting offerings and humanitarian donations.
Community leaders expressed gratitude to the donors and committed to maintaining the facilities properly.
