Former GES Director-General Prof Jerome Siau Djangmah Passes Away at 88

Accra: A former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Jerome Siau Djangmah, has died at the age of 88. According to a family announcement issued on May 26, 2026, the distinguished academic and public servant passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

According to Ghana Web, Prof Djangmah was widely respected for his decades of service in Ghana's education sector and across West Africa, holding several top leadership positions during his career. He served as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Chairman of the West African Examinations Council, Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba, and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

Prof Djangmah also headed the Department of Zoology at both the University of Ghana and the University of Cape Coast (UCC). The family has opened its residence at No. 5 Oleander Street, Teshie Nungua Estate, Accra, for visits by well-wishers, colleagues, and members of the public between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on selected dates from May 30 to June 13, 2026.

The family said details of the final funeral arrangements will be announced later.
