ECG Substations Submerged After Weija Dam Spillage

Accra: The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that several communities in the Accra West Region have been plunged into darkness following flooding caused by the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam, which submerged some power distribution substations. According to Ghana Web, the flooding occurred after a spillage exercise carried out by the Ghana Water Company Limited, leading to power outages across multiple communities. The areas currently facing power cuts include Ashbread, White Cross, Kinshasha, Tetegu, and nearby communities. ECG reported that the rising floodwaters have submerged some of its distribution substations, rendering it unsafe to continue operations until conditions improve. The company assured affected customers that its engineers are monitoring the situation and will restore power once the water levels decrease and it is safe to resume operations. The development has raised concerns among residents who are already dealing with the effects of flooding in parts of Accra due t o recent heavy rains and the Weija Dam spillage. ECG has apologized for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring the situation to ensure power is restored as soon as possible.
