Kumasi: Popular Kumawood actor Oboy Salinko has announced his intention to contest for a parliamentary seat again, this time on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The popular comic actor, born Abraham Kofi Davis, made the declaration on Fakye TV's 'Fakye Showbiz' on May 23, 2026, expressing his readiness to transition from entertainment to public service.
According to Ghana Web, Salinko emphasized his desire to bring genuine development to his constituents, criticizing the current MPs for allegedly mismanaging public resources while constituents suffer from a lack of basic amenities. He stated, "When you speak the truth, they claim you are disrespectful. They are embezzling public funds! We have to enter and make things right."
Salinko, who previously contested the Atwima Kwanwoma seat in the 2016 general elections on the ticket of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), described his first political venture as a learning experience. He garnered around 1800 votes and noted the significance of numbers in political contests, adding, "I even had calls from the NPP and the NDC."
This time, Salinko is setting his sights on one of the two major parties, with a preference for the NPP. He revealed having a dream where a delegate from a major party encouraged him to run, hinting at his ambitions beyond just becoming an MP. Presently, the Old Tafo and Atwima Kwanwoma constituencies have sitting MPs, Vincent Ekow Assafuah and Kofi Amankwa-Manu Esq, respectively.
