Peki-asikuma: Four people have been rescued following two separate road traffic accidents along the Peki-Asikuma stretch in the Volta Region on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, a statement by the Ghana National Fire Service on May 25, 2026, revealed that the incidents occurred within hours of each other, prompting emergency rescue operations by personnel from the Peki Fire Station.
The first accident took place near the Customs Barrier at Asikuma at approximately 7:18 am, involving a Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck with registration number GR 1226-22, traveling from Accra to Peki. Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene and rescued one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. The pickup truck sustained damage, particularly to its engine compartment and rear section.
While firefighters were engaged in rescue operations at the first accident scene, they encountered a second crash at Asikuma Junction around 10:04 am. This accident involved a MAN diesel cargo truck, with registration number GT 4958 W, transporting yams from Bimbilla to Accra. Rescue teams swiftly launched another operation, successfully freeing three victims trapped in the truck before handing them over for medical attention.
The Ghana National Fire Service has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and adhere strictly to road safety regulations to help reduce road traffic accidents. Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances leading to both accidents.
