Watch How Family of Five Escaped Death After House Caved In at Aboso

Aboso: A family of five in Aboso, a community in Tarkwa in the Western Region, narrowly escaped death after their house reportedly collapsed following heavy rainfall, with suspected illegal mining activities cited as a possible contributing factor.

According to Ghana Web, a viral video shared on X on May 25, 2026, suggests that continuous rains are believed to have weakened the soil structure beneath the property, eventually causing the building to cave in while the family was inside. The video alleges that underground illegal mining pits have become widespread in parts of the community, raising concerns about the stability of residential structures.

The video further reports that in Aboso, when individuals stamp their feet on the ground, they can hear sounds underneath, indicating possible underground voids. The recent heavy rains are also believed to be exposing and worsening these underground weaknesses, increasing the risk to homes built above suspected excavated grounds.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, leaving residents anxious about the potential for future structural failures in the area. Concerns are growing among the community about the safety of their homes and the urgent need for intervention to address these underlying issues.
