AfriCAN Ghana Launches Campaign to Promote Water and Sanitation on Africa Day

Accra: AfriCAN Ghana will mark this year's Africa Day on May 25 with a campaign focused on promoting environmental protection, safe sanitation, clean water, and good nutrition. The initiative is themed 'Our Water, Our Environment, Our Responsibility' and aligns with the African Union's 2026 theme: 'Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.'

According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Francis Bruno Zotor, Country Director of AfriCAN Ghana, stated that the campaign aims to raise awareness about the consequences of unsafe water, pollution, poor sanitation, and unhealthy lifestyles on public health, nutrition, and sustainable development. He emphasized that protecting water bodies, improving sanitation, and encouraging healthy lifestyles are essential to securing the future of African communities.

Professor Zotor urged the public to support initiatives focused on water resource protection, maintaining clean environments, promoting safe sanitation practices, and encouraging good nutrition within communities. These actions, he noted, are vital for improving community health and building a sustainable future for all.

In a conversation with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Nana Kwame Addi Bekoe, Youth Coordinator for AfriCAN Ghana, highlighted the significance of Africa Day as a time for reflecting on issues affecting the continent and the necessity for collective action. He mentioned that AfriCAN has consistently used this occasion to engage young people and communities on topics related to nutrition, health, and sustainable development.

Mr. Bekoe also shared that the commemoration would consist of a series of discussions and engagements centered on environmental sustainability, water protection, sanitation, and nutrition education. He called on members of the 'Good Nutrition Starts with Me' ambassadors initiative and the general public to participate actively in the campaign and support efforts aimed at building healthier and more sustainable communities across the country.
