NPP Youth Group Urges Bawumia to Maintain Opoku Prempeh as Running-Mate

Wenchi: The 'G Boys', a youth group and political fan club of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Constituency, has called on Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Election 2028 flagbearer of the party, to maintain Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate. According to Ghana News Agency, the group justified their request by stating that the Election 2024 had effectively marketed Dr. Prempeh, who was then the vice-presidential candidate of the NPP, in the eyes of the electorate. In an interview with GNA at Wenchi in the Bono Region, Mr. Richard Kwadwo Adu, the founder and convener of the group, reminded former Vice President Alhaji Bawumia that picking a different running mate would not be beneficial for the party. He emphasized that Dr. Prempeh, also a former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and a former minister of state, was now well-known among the electorate, and it would be politically inexpedient to change him for another running mate for the NPP. Mr. Adu, also a former Wenchi Constituenc y youth organizer of the NPP, expressed confidence that Dr. Prempeh would help Alhaji Dr. Bawumia and the NPP to secure political power in Election 2028 because the electorate had come to like him. Mr. Adu stated, "The electorate has come to understand and like Dr. Prempeh more because of his integrity, track records, compassion, and selflessness." He also declared his intention to contest the Wenchi constituency chairmanship slot of the NPP, saying he was vying for the position to lead his group to work hard and ensure that Bawumia and Napo return the NPP to political power in Election 2028. He argued that for these reasons, it would not be advisable for Alhaji Dr. Bawumia to change Dr. Prempeh for any other person as the party's Election 2028 running mate. Mr. Adu justified that Dr. Prempeh could help the NPP poll more votes in the Ashanti and Bono Regions. "This is because Dr. Prempeh now has a solid grassroots support base in the Ashanti and Bono Regions," Mr. Adu said. He concluded by acknowledging Dr . Prempeh's 58th birthday and wishing him well.
