Accra: Four civilians have been killed, and a further five injured in the embattled Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, as a result of Russian glide bomb and drone attacks.
According to Ghana News Agency, in the small town of Druzhkivka, close to the front line, three men were initially killed when glide bombs were dropped, as reported by the regional public prosecutor's office on Telegram. An hour later, a drone struck a car, killing one of the occupants.
Druzhkivka is located south of Kramatorsk and is approximately 20 kilometers from the Russian front lines. Russian fighter jets release the bombs from the safety of their own airspace, and they are then guided to their target, gliding for dozens of kilometers.
Ukraine has so far had limited means of countering this weapon. However, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that Ukraine has developed its own glide bomb containing 250 kilograms of explosives, which is due to be deployed soon, according to media reports.
Russia has been waging a war against neighboring Ukraine for more than four years.
