Accra: The NDC Deputy National Communications Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, has reignited discussions regarding the legal challenges faced by former NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo. This comes in the wake of public scrutiny surrounding the legal issues of Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC.
According to Ghana Web, Ako Gunn, speaking on JoyNews, highlighted that Ofosu Ampofo was compelled to appear in court 88 times during the tenure of the previous NPP administration. He described the ordeal as both physically and emotionally taxing. Ako Gunn emphasized, "A whole national chairman of our party was hauled to court 88 times," while recounting one of the most trying episodes from the series of court cases.
He detailed an incident where Ofosu Ampofo, after undergoing spine surgery in the United States, requested a brief adjournment of court proceedings to allow for medical monitoring during his recovery. "He pleaded that the next court date be postponed for one month because of the surgery on his spine," Ako Gunn explained. However, the request was allegedly denied, compelling the former NDC chairman to cut his recovery short and return to Ghana in significant discomfort. Due to his health condition, Ofosu Ampofo had to travel using three different airlines to accommodate breaks during the journey.
The situation was further exacerbated, according to Ako Gunn, when the Attorney General at the time purportedly failed to submit necessary documents in court. He remarked, "If he knew he was not ready, at least postpone the date for a month." These comments were made amidst a broader discourse on reputational damage and the political nature of legal prosecutions, issues that have gained renewed attention following Abronye's legal predicaments.
Ako Gunn concluded by underscoring the gravity of damaging individuals' reputations through legal proceedings, asserting, "Punishing people's hard-earned image is not a joke."
