Accra: The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, announced that prosecutors have officially closed their case in the trial involving former officials of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) concerning the Accra Sky Train project.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Srem-Sai shared this update on his X page on May 20, 2026. He stated that the prosecution's case in The Republic v Solomon Asamoah and Another, also referred to as the 'Sky Train' case, has concluded. The case involves the former CEO and the former Board Chairman of GIIF, who are on trial for authorizing a payment of US$2 million to a foreign company without obtaining board approval and other necessary authorizations.
The Deputy Attorney General highlighted that the prosecution informed the court that the funds involved in the transaction cannot be traced. Dr Srem-Sai mentioned that the court has set a deadline of June 8, 2026, for the defense to file their submissions.
Dr Srem-Sai noted, "The court gave them up to June 8 to file their submissions. If the submission makes sense to the judge, the accused persons will be acquitted and discharged. If it does not, the judge will require them to explain why they should not be convicted."
The Attorney General's office has filed four criminal charges against Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of GIIF, in connection with the alleged misapplication of US$2 million. Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi and former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah are accused of misapplying funds allocated for the Sky Train project.
