Teachers Boycott Classes Following Curse Allegations at Kobedi AME Zion School

Sunyani west: Teachers at the Kobedi AME Zion Primary and Junior High School in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region have boycotted classes indefinitely since Monday, May 18, 2026. The absence of teachers has left the school children wandering around the town.

According to Ghana News Agency, the decision to boycott classes was influenced by the sudden deaths of the school's head teacher, Madam Glady Dorlo Batinge, and another teacher. These events have been linked to curses allegedly invoked by a student against the school authorities, accusing them of extorting money.

During a visit to Kobedi, near Chiraa, it was observed at 0900 hours that all classrooms were secured with padlocks, and no teachers or students were present on the school's premises. Community members informed the agency on condition of anonymity that the teachers' deaths were believed to be a consequence of the student's curse.

One community member explained that the local deity takes curses seriously and that the teachers' boycott was a protest against the current situation at the school. A teacher confirmed that the faculty collectively decided to suspend classes until the curse is lifted.
