Accra: Mr Ziblim Alhassan, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), led a delegation to meet with Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, to congratulate him on his appointment and discuss library infrastructure development in the region. The meeting took place at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and focused on ongoing and completed library projects, as well as strategies to improve access to reading and learning facilities across the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Alhassan informed the Minister that the contractor for the stalled Ho Regional Library project was expected to return to the site shortly to resume construction works. Mr Alhassan described the project as a top priority for the Authority and expressed optimism that it would soon be completed to serve students, researchers, and the public. He emphasized that the Ho Regional Library remains a major priority for the Ghana Library Authority and confirmed their commitment to ensuring its completion to improve access to knowledge and educational resources in the Volta region.
Mr Alhassan also announced the completion of the Hohoe Library project, which is now ready for operational use. He highlighted that the facility is part of broader efforts by the Authority to expand library services and promote literacy, learning, and digital access across the country. He noted that modern libraries serve as centers for research, innovation, digital learning, and community development, particularly for young people and students.
Furthermore, the Chief Executive Officer stressed the importance of effective collaboration between government institutions and stakeholders to ensure sustainable investment in educational infrastructure. Mr Gunu commended the Ghana Library Authority for prioritizing library development projects in the region and acknowledged the role of libraries in promoting literacy, education, research, and lifelong learning.
The Minister pledged the support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council towards the completion and operationalization of the Ho Regional Library project. He expressed his intention to work closely with the GhLA, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Trust Fund to address challenges affecting the project. Mr Gunu expressed optimism that improved library infrastructure would enhance educational development, skills acquisition, and academic excellence in the Volta region.
The visit was part of the GhLA's stakeholder engagement efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand access to quality library services nationwide.
