Accra: The Wasipe Traditional Council in the North Gonja District has pledged its support and cooperation to the government to ensure the successful implementation of development projects in the area. This assurance comes amid renewed hope among residents following the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power, which has accelerated development initiatives in the district.
According to Ghana News Agency, Tandawura Alhaji Mohammed Amin, representing the Chiefs, conveyed this commitment during a courtesy visit by Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC, to the Wasipewura. The visit was part of Mr. Nketiah's 'Thank You Tour' of the Savannah Region, aimed at expressing gratitude to the region's people for their support, which contributed to the party's victory in the 2024 general elections.
Tandawura Amin praised the leadership of the NDC-led government for its ongoing development projects across the country. He noted that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana has transformed into a "construction site," with roads being opened and projects restarting, thereby restoring hope in local communities.
Significant infrastructure developments have already begun in the area, including the long-awaited bridge project in Wasipe, the construction of a new College of Education, and a hospital theatre project. The bridge project, in particular, has been a long-standing aspiration for the people of Wasipe, with its completion expected to enhance connectivity, trade, and mobility.
In terms of healthcare, Tandawura Amin highlighted the posting of a medical doctor to the Wasipe Health Centre for the first time as a pivotal development in healthcare delivery. Despite these advancements, he appealed to the government to address the poor road network, as the North Gonja District is among the few districts without tarred roads.
Mr. Nketiah, addressing the gathering, emphasized the government's commitment to addressing the historical underdevelopment of the area, expressing optimism for significant transformation within the next four years. He assured residents that road construction would commence following the completion of the bridge.
Encouraging party supporters to prioritize the government's development agenda over personal interests, Mr. Nketiah commended the party's branch executives for their pivotal role in securing the election victory.
Mr. Abdulai Nashiru, the North Gonja District Chief Executive, highlighted the district's ongoing rapid infrastructure development under President Mahama's leadership, citing projects such as a 24-hour economy market, classroom blocks, health facilities, and youth skills development initiatives.
