Accra: The Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA) has announced that the implementation of the reviewed Container Administrative Charge (CAC), originally scheduled for May 1, 2026, has been deferred to July 1, 2026, following the intervention of the Minister of Transport.
According to Ghana News Agency, the extension is intended to allow for comprehensive stakeholder consultations and strategic engagements to ensure that the final fee structure reflects the interests of all parties involved. The delay aims to foster a more inclusive decision-making process that takes into account the perspectives and needs of everyone affected by the changes.
Pending the final determination in July, the Minister has directed an immediate regulatory cap on the Container Administrative Charge. Effective immediately, the charge shall not exceed GHS 720 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) for both import and export containers. This measure is intended to provide temporary relief and stability to the shipping industry while discussions are ongoing.
The Ghana Shippers' Authority has urged all stakeholders in the shipping industry to take note of the directive and ensure full compliance. The Authority emphasizes the importance of adhering to the capped fee to maintain order and fairness in the industry during this interim period.
