Accra: Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has directed the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to initiate the termination of the contract with Black Oak for the construction of the Bogoso-Prestea road in the Western Region. This decision follows the Minister's assessment of the contractor's performance, which he deemed unsatisfactory.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Agbodza made this decision during an inspection tour of Big Push and other priority projects in the Western Region. He revealed that less than two percent of the work on the Bogoso-Prestea road had been completed, which led to his directive. Despite the road not being part of the government's Big Push programme, it has been identified as a priority project crucial for socio-economic development in the area.
The Minister emphasized the importance of the road, stating the need for a contractor who understands the urgency of addressing stakeholders' concerns. He instructed the GHA to commence the process of terminating the current contract and to reassign it to a more capable contractor.
The contract with Black Oak was awarded in 2025, and local authorities reported that the contractor mobilized in March of this year, performing minimal work such as clearing trees and structures within the right-of-way before halting progress.
