Kajaji: Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, has unveiled a 22-seater boat for the regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to improve healthcare access in island communities within the region. The boat is expected to facilitate the transportation of healthcare personnel to hard-to-reach communities on the Volta Lake in the Sene East District.
According to Ghana News Agency, the unveiling ceremony took place in Kajaji, the district capital. Mr Antwi emphasized the importance of maintaining the boat and urged traditional authorities and residents to use the vessel responsibly. He expressed optimism that the boat would help address recurring disasters on the lake and advised operators to avoid speeding.
Mr Kingsford Gyamfi Opoku, the Acting Bono East Regional Director of the NHIA, stated that the boat would improve healthcare delivery services in the island communities and strengthen the Free Primary Healthcare programme. He highlighted the boat's role in enhancing outreach services and ensuring residents continue to benefit from quality healthcare and essential government services.
Mr Opoku also mentioned that the boat's operation aligns with the NHIA's Corporate Social Responsibility programme, aimed at enhancing access to quality healthcare services. Nana Krunka Osore Sunkwa II, the Kyidomhene of the Nkomi Traditional Council, expressed gratitude to the government and pledged to monitor the boat's operations to ensure it serves its intended purposes.
