Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan, has raised concerns over the potential absence of Kudus Mohammed and Mohammed Salisu from the upcoming FIFA World Cup, describing it as a 'huge blow' to the Black Stars.
According to Ghana Web, Gyan emphasized the significance of the injuries to these two pivotal players during an interview with Citi Sports. He highlighted Kudus' role in the squad, citing his creativity and ability to deliver moments of individual brilliance as crucial to Ghana's attacking strategy.
Gyan remarked, "It's a huge blow for Ghana. Huge, huge, huge blow for Ghana. In every team, you have that player that can do a lot of things when it comes to creativity and create chances. We are lacking that in the team and our focus was that he could do something special."
In addition to Kudus' offensive contributions, Gyan pointed out the defensive reliability that Salisu provides, particularly in set-piece situations. He noted that Salisu has been instrumental in Ghana's recent successes during qualifiers and friendly matches.
"And Salisu, you know, he's a rock when it comes to set pieces. During the qualifications and the friendly games, we were scoring more goals through set pieces and he was more involved in it," Gyan added.
The former captain urged the Black Stars' technical team to expedite their search for suitable replacements if Kudus and Salisu are deemed unfit for the tournament. "That two players that are injured now, it's a huge blow to Ghana and we have to work on their replacements as soon as possible," he stated.
