Accra: Dr. William Komla Tsekpo, the Municipal Education Director for Ayawaso East, has announced the municipality's ambitious goal of achieving a 100 per cent pass rate in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). 'That would be a great improvement over the 2025 pass rate of 92.3 per cent,' he stated in an interview.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Tsekpo revealed these details ahead of the final BECE Arabic exams. He mentioned that 1,176 candidates registered for the 2026 BECE in the municipality, a slight decrease from last year's 1,200. The candidates hailed from 32 schools, comprising 12 public and 20 private institutions, and sat for the exams at five designated centres.
Dr. Tsekpo noted that eight students, comprising one boy and seven girls, were absent from the entire examination. He explained that two of the girls were suspected to be pregnant, two had relocated from Accra, and one had traveled. Importantly, the municipality reported no instances of examination malpractice, which he attributed to the continuous engagement and preparation of candidates.
Effective supervision by invigilators and authorities also played a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the examination process. Dr. Tsekpo expressed his appreciation for the education directors in the municipality, the Police, WAEC, and the candidates for their cooperation throughout the examination period.
