Kumasi: Muslims in the region have expressed their admiration for McDan's continued efforts in fostering socioeconomic empowerment within the Zongo communities. Speaking to the GNA after communal prayers, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Zakaria Al-Shoukry, emphasized the significance of acknowledging individuals who prioritize personal and community development.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief Imam highlighted that support for education, healthcare, and food security by benefactors like McDan contributes to long-term community stability. He mentioned that McDan's consistent support for the Zongo communities has made him a regular subject of prayers, with the community seeking Allah's guidance for him, his family, and his business ventures.
The Chief Imam elaborated on various empowerment programs initiated by Dr. McDan, such as providing scholarships to needy students, covering medical expenses for the underprivileged, and distributing food items to families during challenging times. He explained that these actions not only offer immediate relief but also help beneficiaries overcome issues like school dropout, medical challenges, and food insecurity, which economically strain families.
Dr. McDan's visits to the Kumasi Central Mosque, regarded by the Muslim leadership as acts of humility and respect, have further strengthened community ties. These visits are seen as a sign of his concern not just for business success but also for community spirit and moral responsibility.
Mr. McKorley noted that his activities in the Ashanti Region are part of a broader plan involving stakeholder engagement and community dialogue. He aims to foster productive partnerships that can sustainably improve livelihoods. As part of his commitment to empowering Zongo women, he plans to explore opportunities in the salt trade with them, emphasizing the importance of guiding women into profitable businesses rather than providing only temporary financial help.
He stressed the need for proper guidance, market support, and access to initial capital to transform small trading ventures into stable economic empowerment. Mr. McKorley encouraged the Ulamau and chiefs to continue their prayers for business people, asserting that when combined with careful planning and disciplined work, economic development becomes more attainable.
He hopes that the community's prayers will lead to increased support for entrepreneurs and enhanced living standards, especially for those residing in the Zongo communities.
