Abu dhabi: Ghana and the UAE are looking to enhance their energy partnership following a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. This meeting took place during the 'Make it in the Emirates 2026' event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
According to Ghana Web, the two leaders discussed the UAE's plans to invest in oil and gas storage facilities in Ghana as part of efforts to deepen energy collaboration between their countries. Additionally, opportunities in renewable and alternative energy sources, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and solar power, were explored, with an aim to reduce reliance on crude oil.
The discussions also emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence for mutual benefit. President Mahama and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed addressed ongoing tensions in the Middle East, expressing their hope for a swift resolution to the conflict involving the United States and Iran.
The two leaders noted that restoring peace in the region would allow the global community to refocus on sustainable development and innovation. Sheikh Mohamed described Ghana as "a peaceful and stable democracy" with "strong potential for deeper economic collaboration."
Both leaders reaffirmed the longstanding relations between their countries and expressed optimism that this renewed partnership would lead to increased trade, investment, and sustainable energy development in the coming years.
