Aburi: The Eastern Regional Police Command has taken decisive action in the ongoing Adambrobe-Aburi chieftaincy dispute by arresting a total of eleven individuals suspected of possessing arms and ammunition. This development follows a series of operations aimed at curbing unrest in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the arrests began on Sunday, May 3, when ten suspects were apprehended by the Aburi District Command at Adambrobe, Aburi. These individuals were found in possession of arms and ammunition without the necessary authorization, a situation linked to the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in the region.
The names of the first ten suspects include Dawu Joseph, a farmer, Kwame Aboagye, a vulcanizer, Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver, Owusu Paul, a member of the Adambrobe Asekyere family, and Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman. Additionally, private security personnel Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson, and Richard Agyeman were also among those arrested.
The police operation resulted in the retrieval of five pump action rifles, 23 live cartridges, one taser, six phones, and one body armor. Two vehicles, an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19, which were allegedly used to transport the suspects, were impounded as part of the investigation.
The following day, an additional suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested after being spotted in a procession within the township. This brought the total number of detained individuals to eleven. All suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Eastern Regional Police Command, through Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, has expressed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Adambrobe. Authorities are urging all parties involved in the dispute to exercise restraint as investigations continue.
