Jirapa: The Anwelle Foundation, a local non-governmental organization, has recognized Tiekan Joseph, affectionately known as 'Hero,' with a new Apsonic AP125-30 motorbike following his impressive 525-kilometre bicycle ride from Yeji to Jirapa as part of this year's B'ong-ngo Festival.
According to Ghana Web, the award was presented by Frank Anwelle, CEO of the Anwelle Foundation, alongside Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa, the Paramount Chief of Jirapa, at a grand durbar marking the 2026 Bong-ngo feast. The ceremony witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, Cletus S. Dapilah, Member of Parliament for the Jirapa Constituency, and Hon. Peter N. To-ang, Municipal Chief Executive for Jirapa.
The foundation's gesture underlines its commitment to supporting individuals who showcase resilience, initiative, and a strong sense of community. Hero, originally from Jirapa Nambeg and a teacher in Yeji, undertook the four-day cycling expedition to promote the Bong-ngo Festival and advocate for cycling as a healthy lifestyle option. His journey, marked by overnight stops in Apesika, Tinga, and Sawla, garnered significant admiration and concluded with a warm welcome in Jirapa.
In addition to the motorbike, Muskila Motors contributed GH?1,000 to assist Hero with fuel expenses, enhancing the award's practical benefits. The Anwelle Foundation emphasized that this action aligns with its objectives of promoting youth empowerment, healthy living, and community-driven development.
