Wenchi: The Most Reverend Professor Johnson K Asamoah-Gyadu, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has commissioned an ultra-modern 80-bed Orthopedic Center at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the German government, through the Ghana community in Niederbayern and led by Nana Kwame Busia, a native of Wenchi, collaborated with MCG to fund the construction of the facility. The center, costing 630,000 Euros, is named after the late Paramount Queen-mother of the Wenchi Traditional Area, 'Obaapanin Abenaa Henewaa Tiakaa Orthopedic Center'. It includes male, female, children, and private wards, a specialist training centre, patient lifting machines, standard washrooms, and other facilities.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ceremony at Wenchi, Mt Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu emphasized the church's dedication to investing in health infrastructure to improve access to critical services and promote the holistic well-being of the people. He stated that besides spiritual development, the church is committed to advancing quality healthcare delivery across the country.
Nana Alexander Kwaku Kyei, the Chief Executive Officer of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, noted that the facility is designed to provide specialized orthopedic care for clients. He mentioned that the hospital receives clients from parts of the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Western North Regions, as well as neighboring countries like C´te D'Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to the German government and facilitators. She stated that the facility aligns with the government's dedication to strengthening healthcare service delivery in the country. Madam Gyamfi highlighted the government's Primary Health Care policy, which guarantees annual basic health screening for Ghanaians with valid identification cards.
Dr Sibiri Ballu, an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, noted that the facility would significantly improve the treatment of fractures, trauma injuries, and other orthopedic conditions. He mentioned that the hospital's orthopedic ward had been facing serious overcrowding issues, denying many clients timely care, and called on the hospital management to maintain the facility.
