Damongo: The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) recently organized a stakeholders' forum in Damongo, Savannah Region, to discuss oil revenue management. The event aimed at fostering transparency and accountability in the handling of the nation's oil and gas resources.
According to Ghana News Agency, the forum also offered updates on the 2025 PIAC report and sought feedback from attendees. Participants included civil society organizations, religious leaders, traditional authorities, students, and government officials. Mr. Salisu Be-Awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister, highlighted several oil-funded projects in the area, such as residential accommodations for the Savannah Regional Police Command and ongoing roadworks on the Tamale-Salaga-Makango and Bole-Chache Roads.
Mr. Be-Awuribe pointed out the region's challenges, such as low potable water coverage and a high poverty rate, emphasizing the need for strategic investments to accelerate development. He commended the government for its efforts and urged PIAC members to advocate for further development.
Mr. Isaac Dwamena, PIAC Secretariat Coordinator, presented the 2025 Annual Report, noting a decline in Ghana's crude oil production from 71.4 million barrels in 2019 to 37.3 million barrels in 2025. He attributed this to natural field depletion, aging oil fields, and limited capital for new drilling. He urged the government to attract investments and enhance production efficiency.
PIAC also conducted a capacity-building workshop for media practitioners in the region to enhance their reporting on the oil and gas sector. The Committee inspected various projects during their visit to the region.
