GES Allocates Funds for School Food Procurement After Crisis Warning

Accra: The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country. This decision comes in the wake of threats by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to shut down schools if urgent financial support was not provided, as indicated in a statement signed by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES.

According to Ghana News Agency, the management of GES informed the public and stakeholders in the education sector that the outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items have been released to schools nationwide. This release aims to alleviate the financial strain on schools and prevent any disruptions in feeding programs for students.

The decision to release funds followed a stakeholders' meeting with the Sector Minister, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, which sought to address concerns over a potential food crisis. However, the meeting concluded without a definitive resolution. In response, GES has taken proactive steps to ensure the funds are disbursed efficiently to the schools.

The statement further emphasized that monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been established to guarantee that the funds are utilized effectively and strictly for their intended purpose. This is part of GES's commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in the management of educational resources.

The GES assured all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to the welfare of students and the continuous improvement of educational outcomes across the country. The agency reiterated its dedication to ensuring that schools receive the necessary support to function smoothly and provide quality education to students.
