Speaking in Botswana, Gadayi did not hold back as he questioned why football continues to receive the most attention and investment despite recent struggles on the international stage.
According to Ghana Web, Gadayi expressed his frustration with the prioritization of football over athletics in Ghana. He pointed out that while athletes often bring home medals, football, particularly the Black Stars, has not performed as expected on the global stage. Gadayi emphasized the need for greater support for athletics, arguing that athletes consistently deliver results for the country.
Gadayi's remarks come in the wake of a challenging period for Ghana's relay team in Gaborone, where athletes raised concerns about preparation and support conditions. Sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Abdul Rasheed Saminu had previously voiced similar frustrations, and Gadayi's comments have added to the growing debate regarding the support for various sports in Ghana.
Despite these challenges, Ghana's men's 4x100m relay team succeeded in securing qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, providing a rare positive outcome amidst a difficult period for athletics in the country.
