Shai hills: The Director General of Police Operations, Commissioner of Police (COP) Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has opened an investigation into a disturbing incident at Shai Hills in the Shai Osudoku District, where a police investigator was allegedly abducted during a land dispute.
According to Ghana Web, the incident occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2026, when Sergeant David Afeke was allegedly taken away by armed men in civilian clothing while conducting investigations at a disputed land site along the Tema-Akosombo highway. The investigator was responding to a complaint from a real estate developer, Rush Asare, who reported harassment by land guards while developing his property near the VIK-FRANZ School Complex.
Tensions had already been escalating at the site due to the arrival of armed men who reportedly took control of the land and demolished a fence wall and gate. Despite identifying himself as a police investigator and presenting his identity card, Sergeant Afeke was seized by the armed men and forced into one of two unmarked pickups, with registration numbers GG 972-24 and GS 241-24, then transported to an unknown location.
The Chronicle newspaper reports that the incident caused confusion at the scene, particularly because another police team from Tema was stationed nearby to provide security support for the developer. In response to the rising tension, the Tema Regional Police Operations Commander, DSP Jean Kpelli, ordered his team to withdraw to prevent any potential escalation.
During his abduction, Sergeant Afeke managed to contact the Afienya District Police Commander, reporting his situation. The District Commander's intervention with the vehicle's occupants led to the officer's release back to the site.
Meanwhile, the land at the center of the dispute is claimed by different parties, with one individual, Tawiah, asserting ownership rights while denying involvement in the deployment of armed men. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, with COP Teye-Cudjoe confirming that they will examine the circumstances surrounding the abduction, the armed group's mobilization, and the conduct of the officers involved.
