Volta region: The Volta/Oti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests in the regions. Mr. Emmanuel Agbesi Foli, the Public Relations Officer for the Volta/Oti region, emphasized the Commission's dedication to regulating electricity and water services, ensuring fair pricing, and protecting both consumers and utility service providers.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Foli addressed attendees at the St Peter Roman Catholic Church in Vakpo, North Dayi District, during a public engagement event titled 'PURC Time in His Presence.' This initiative is part of the Commission's efforts to bring its services closer to the people and raise awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities within the utility sector.
During his address, Mr. Foli explained the Commission's complaint handling procedures and encouraged consumers to use the appropriate channels to resolve their concerns promptly. He reassured attendees that PURC is committed to being accessible and responsive to consumer grievances, noting that timely reporting of issues is crucial for effective service delivery.
Mr. Foli also highlighted the importance of the Commission's outreach initiatives, which aim to deepen public understanding and strengthen stakeholder confidence across the region. He shared practical tips on energy and water conservation, urging households to adopt responsible usage habits to reduce wastage and manage utility costs effectively.
Key issues raised during the engagement included persistent low voltage during peak periods, delays in reflecting payments, and billing inconsistencies. The Commission has acknowledged these concerns and has formally received some complaints for further investigation and resolution.
