Accra: Collins Adomako-Mensah, the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Energy Committee, has expressed his disappointment over the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission's (PURC) lack of public engagement concerning recent power disruptions.
According to Ghana Web, Adomako-Mensah voiced his concerns during a recent interview on Channel One TV. He criticized PURC, the state agency tasked with safeguarding utility consumers, for failing to communicate effectively with the public and provide timely updates on the ongoing power supply issues.
Adomako-Mensah questioned the absence of action from PURC, especially given the agency's previous interventions in similar situations. He recalled an instance in 2024 when PURC sanctioned board members for not providing a timetable to address a dysfunction that caused significant disruptions to consumers in Ghana.
He expressed surprise at PURC's silence amid widespread power fluctuations and emphasized that the regulator has a responsibility to keep consumers informed during such periods of instability. His remarks come in the wake of intermittent electricity outages reportedly linked to a fire incident at a Ghana Grid Company facility near the Akosombo Dam.
