Ejisu: Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu, Jerryne Asante, has firmly stated that she will not be removed from her position by President John Dramani Mahama despite alleged sabotage and attacks from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Her comments follow a violent incident at the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, which she attributed to her efforts to halt an illegal attempt to sell state-owned land.
According to Ghana Web, Asante accused certain NDC executives in Ejisu of involvement in the alleged land transaction. She defended her actions during an interview on Nhyira FM, emphasizing that her decisions were within her mandate to safeguard government assets. Notably, she mentioned the involvement of Ashanti Regional Women's Organiser Gloria Huze in the alleged takeover.
Asante asserted, 'As MCE, it is my duty to ensure that all state properties under my jurisdiction are protected, as mandated.' She reiterated her commitment to preventing any unauthorized acquisition of public property, irrespective of political affiliations. She described the incident as a deliberate sabotage attempt aimed at pressuring the Presidency to dismiss her.
Moreover, Asante emphasized her alignment with the government's 'Resetting Agenda,' expressing confidence that her position would not be jeopardized. She also cautioned NDC executives in Ejisu, warning that such actions could damage the party's reputation and cause unnecessary embarrassment for the government.
She addressed claims that some NDC members justified their actions by citing past behaviors of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She criticized this rationale, noting that similar actions by the NPP contributed to their loss of power, and urged the party not to repeat such mistakes.
In response to reports about her health, Asante clarified that her current hospitalization is unrelated to the alleged attack, stating, 'I have been admitted to hospital but it is not related to the attack.'
