Accra: The Accra Regional Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that three out of six inmates who escaped from the Adabraka District Police custody are connected to the murder case involving the father-in-law of Ghana Gold Board CEO, Sammy Gyamfi.
According to Ghana Web, the Command issued a statement on Monday, April 27, 2026, describing the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard them. 'The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to strongly refute and condemn reports circulating in sections of the media alleging that three (3) out of six (6) inmates who escaped from the Adabraka District Police custody on April 26, 2026, are linked to the murder of Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi's father-in-law,' the statement emphasized. The police clarified that the individuals who escaped from custody have no link to the incident involving the politician's father-in-law.
The statement further explained that the individuals involved were never detained at the Adabraka Police Station in connection with that case and are not related to the said incident. A full investigation has been launched into the circumstances that led to the escape.
The police announced that they have intensified a manhunt to arrest the remaining three escapees and ensure they are brought to justice. They noted that three out of the six escapees have since been re-arrested through swift police action, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining three suspects.
