Some Pastors Prioritise Church Members Based on Tithe They Give – Prophet

Accra: Founder of International Pure Fire Chapel, Prophet Dr. Nana Abboh, has raised a concern about how the modern practice of monetary tithing has created a culture of discrimination within some churches.

According to Ghana Web, some pastors allegedly use tithe records to profile and prioritise wealthier members in the church.

Speaking on United Showbiz on April 25, 2026, the pastor shared how the biblical versions of tithing were not limited to money but included other forms of income. "Let's say you guys are my church members, if you are all paying tithes of ten percent, I can calculate everybody's monthly salary," he said. He further elaborated that if one member has a higher salary than another, the individual with the higher salary is more likely to be prioritised.

Prophet Dr. Nana Abboh emphasized that this is why "God in His infinite wisdom stated that tithe does not have to be just money, it could be farm produce or livestock or anything of value." He maintained that the shift to exclusively monetary tithing in modern church practice is the root of the discrimination problem. The original concept was designed to prevent exactly the kind of issues now playing out in churches, he added.
