Court Remands Mason Over Stepdaughter’s Defilement

Amasaman: The Amasaman Circuit Court has remanded a 56-year-old mason, Simon Wiafe, for allegedly defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter, which resulted in her pregnancy. Wiafe, who denies the charges, is expected to appear in court again on May 7, 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency, Police Inspector Hagar Owusu-Heneba provided the court with the details of the case. The complainant, who is the biological mother of the victim and a trader by profession, shares a residence with the accused in Pokuase Amanfrom. Wiafe allegedly took advantage of his wife's absence to commit the crime on multiple occasions.

The court learned that in March 2026, the young victim noticed irregularities in her menstrual cycle but initially ignored them. On April 1, the complainant noticed signs of pregnancy in her daughter and sought advice from the victim's aunt. Upon questioning, the victim revealed that her stepfather had been sexually abusing her whenever her mother was away for extended periods.

The prosecution stated that the abuse occurred three times, with Wiafe allegedly threatening the victim to keep silent. A pregnancy test confirmed the victim's condition, prompting the complainant to report the incident to DOVVSU, Amasaman, for further investigation.

Following the report, a police medical form was issued to facilitate the victim's examination at a hospital. The accused was subsequently arrested, cautioned, and charged after a thorough investigation.
