President Mahama Announces 2,500 Transformers to Boost Power Stability

Tamale: President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has procured 2,500 transformers for installation across the country, following approval by Cabinet and support from the Finance Ministry. The first phase of installations is expected to improve power stability, with plans to continue replacing old transformers over time. According to Ghana Web, President Mahama, during an inspection exercise at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company yard in Tamale, clarified that recent outages linked to the exercise should not be described as 'dumsor.' He explained that the temporary interruptions are necessary to ensure a more reliable and stable power supply. He assured residents that they will be notified in advance whenever power is to be switched off to allow for installation works. The President also welcomed the local production of many of the transformers, noting that it supports the economy and creates additional benefits for the country. He expressed optimism that Ghana will eventually produce all its transformers domestically. President Mahama further stressed the need for continuous investment in power infrastructure to keep pace with growing demand, as communities expand across the country.
