Ghana to Host 19th eLearning Africa Conference in 2026

Accra: Ghana is set to host the 19th eLearning Africa Conference and Exhibition in Accra from June 3 to 5, 2026. The event, themed 'Africa's Time, Africa's Terms: Learning for Sovereignty, Strength and Solidarity,' marks the second time Ghana will host the conference since 2008.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, announced the conference at its launch in Accra. He emphasized the global transformation of education driven by technology and highlighted the importance of Africa's participation in the digital revolution. Mr. Iddrisu pointed out that technology is reshaping lifestyles, teaching methods, and work environments, and warned against Africa being left behind in this technological advancement.

Mr. Iddrisu urged the continent to embrace e-learning and expand technological access to underserved regions to foster inclusive development. He described the conference as Africa's premier platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration in digital education and skills development. The event will provide countries the opportunity to share experiences in digital education, evaluate their progress, and identify areas needing attention.

He noted the challenge of many Ghanaian schools lacking electricity and internet connectivity, but reaffirmed the government's commitment to investing in internet access across all schools. The minister also mentioned that tablets had been distributed at the senior high school level under the previous government to aid digital learning. Current efforts include assessing the digital needs of learners from preschool to junior high school to guide future interventions.

A national digital education policy is in development, with a review team actively working on it. Ghana aims to position itself as a hub for digital education through reforms like the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project and the Education Strategic Plan (2018-2030), which focus on expanding access and improving quality.

Ms. Rosa Calero, Chief Executive of eLearning Africa, praised Ghana for hosting the event, recognizing its role in providing professionals with insights into evolving trends in digital learning. The conference will feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, discovery demonstrations, knowledge-sharing sessions, and exhibitions by international eLearning manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers. It will also host a ministerial roundtable with African ICT and education ministers to discuss crucial issues in education, training, skills, and technology.

Over the past 20 years, the eLearning Africa conference has welcomed more than 23,000 participants from over 100 countries, with over 80 percent hailing from Africa and featuring more than 4,700 speakers.
