Over 1,000 Residents Benefit from NHIS Registration Exercise in Bedeku

Bedeku: More than 1,000 residents in the Bedeku Electoral Area in the Ada East District have benefited from a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise organized by Mr. Abraham Teye Korley, the Assembly Member for the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise, which took place from April 8 to April 17, 2026, aimed to improve access to healthcare services by ensuring that residents are enrolled in the scheme. The registration was conducted at various centers, including the District Hospital and the Bedeku Church of Christ auditorium. Residents from communities such as Faithkope, Manaikpo, Kunyenya, Korlekope, Bedeku, and Kpornya were served.

Data made available indicated that a total of 1,087 people were registered and renewed their membership during the exercise. Of the number, 360 were new enrollments, and 727 were renewals. The breakdown showed that on the first day, 219 residents were served, while the second day saw 297 people registered. The third day and a mop-up exercise served 383 beneficiaries and 188 residents, respectively.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Korley said the initiative was to bring NHIS services closer to people, particularly those who found it difficult to travel to registration centers. He noted that the exercise was free for all residents in the electoral area and covered all categories, including new applicants, renewals, and replacements.

"This exercise forms part of efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and reduce the number of uninsured residents in the electoral area," he said. Mr. Korley urged residents to take advantage of the NHIS to access quality healthcare services and reduce the financial burden associated with medical treatment.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and convenient. They said the exercise had saved them time and the cost of traveling long distances to access NHIS services.
