Fiapre Traditional Authority Enforces Fines for Waste Disposal Violations

Fiapre: The Fiapre Traditional Authority in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region has implemented a fine for littering and indiscriminate waste disposal in the area. Obrempong Professor Kyem Amponsah II, the Chief of Fiapre, has warned community members against improper waste disposal, stating that offenders will face sanctions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the chief made this announcement during a clean-up exercise organized by the traditional authority in Fiapre. The event, themed 'Clean Community, Healthy Living', aimed to promote environmental cleanliness and health.

Obrempong Prof Amponsah highlighted the risks associated with littering and improper waste management, emphasizing the potential for outbreaks of communicable diseases that could harm public health. He stated, "It's now an offence to dump refuse in gutters. Offenders will be liable to a fine and will also clear the gutters."

The chief also encouraged shop owners and market women to maintain cleanliness around their establishments. During the clean-up exercise, Obrempong Prof Amponsah, along with some sub-chiefs, queens, fun clubs, market women, and Assembly Members, participated in activities such as picking plastic waste, clearing choked gutters, and sweeping weedy and dirty areas. The exercise lasted for several hours, demonstrating the community's commitment to improving its environment.
