Techiman north: Miss Priscilla Kumi, the Midwife in-charge of the Nyansuaka Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound, has made an urgent appeal for the installation of a water facility at the compound. This request aims to significantly improve the conditions under which deliveries and other healthcare services are conducted in the Techiman North District. According to Ghana News Agency, Miss Kumi highlighted the numerous challenges facing the facility, emphasizing the immediate need for a mechanised borehole and accommodation for health workers. The midwife also urged the government to address the poor state of roads in the region, which exacerbates the difficulties faced by the healthcare staff. In an interview during a visit to Nyansuaka in the Bono East Region, Miss Kumi expressed her concerns about the lack of water at the facility, which hampers the delivery of essential healthcare services. She pointed out that the absence of a water facility and adequate accommodation deters health w orkers from accepting assignments in the area. Furthermore, Miss Kumi called on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to consider accrediting the CHPS compound as a service provider under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This accreditation would not only enhance healthcare delivery but also alleviate some of the operational challenges faced by the facility. Residents of Nyansuaka, a predominantly farming community, also voiced their frustrations regarding developmental challenges such as the deteriorating road conditions, lack of sanitary facilities, and water scarcity. With a population of about 500, the community urgently requires male and female toilets to combat open defecation. Mr. Obed Amoah, an opinion leader in the community, lamented the poor condition of the CHPS compound, which lacks modern medical devices and essential drugs. He noted that the acute water shortage has become an annual issue, as nearby streams, a primary water source, dry up during the dry seasons. Mr. Samu el Sakyere, Chairman of the Nyansuaka Youth Association, expressed concern over the rising rates of alcoholism and substance abuse, which he believes threaten the future of the youth in the area.
