Accra: The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars. The decision marks a significant step in Ghana's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
According to Ghana Web, Queiroz brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached prestigious teams such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as national teams including Portugal and Iran. His track record includes leading South Africa to the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification, guiding Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managing Iran during the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
In addition to his World Cup experience, Queiroz has also held coaching roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar. His diverse background is expected to be instrumental in steering the Black Stars through their upcoming World Cup campaign.
Coach Queiroz is set to commence his duties immediately, focusing on preparing the team for the tournament, which begins on June 11, 2026. Ghana's first group match is scheduled against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, Canada. The team will subsequently face England and Croatia in the remaining group matches.
