Why Diogo Jota Never Saw His Wedding Video Before His Death – Widow Explains

Lisbon: Diogo Jota never got the chance to watch the video of his wedding, his widow, Rute Cardoso, has revealed. Just moments before the Liverpool striker's fatal car crash in northern Spain in July 2025, Rute sent Jota a text telling him she wanted to share the video with him. According to Ghana Web, the 28-year-old footballer, traveling back to Liverpool after doctors advised him against flying following surgery, tragically lost his life when his Lamborghini Huracan veered off the motorway near the Spain-Portugal border. His younger brother, Andre Silva, also died in the accident. Jota had married his childhood sweetheart in Porto, Portugal, only 11 days before the collision. Rute's messages, which he never saw, are detailed in an upcoming biography about the striker, "Nunca Mais e Muito Tempo" ('Never Again Is a Long Time'), authored by former footballer Jose Manuel Delgado and set to be published in Portugal on April 9, 2026. Describing the book on Portuguese TV, presenter Isabel Figueira highlighted t he heartbreak of Rute's final texts. 'She says she had just received the wedding video and told him, 'Love, when you stop, call me, because I have something here to show you,'' Figueira said. Tragically, Jota never had the chance to see it.
