Sunyani: Mr. Michael Yeboah Danso, an Elder of the Yawhima Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Sunyani Municipality, has defended the government, stating that the nation cannot be solely blamed for the rising unemployment situation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Elder Danso highlighted that unemployment is now a global phenomenon that requires a collective approach to be effectively addressed through job creation opportunities. He emphasized the importance of educational institutions prioritizing practical learning over theoretical approaches to better tackle the growing unemployment rate.
Speaking in an interview at Yawhima in the Bono Region, Elder Danso noted that the government alone could not bear the responsibility of addressing the unemployment challenge. He stated, "Employment is a global phenomenon, and we must stop blaming the government and contribute our quota to addressing it."
Elder Danso urged higher educational institutions to transition from theory-based to practical-based learning. He also stressed the importance of the nation investing significantly in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), citing Germany as an example of success attributable to TVET education.
Furthermore, Elder Danso encouraged employed graduates to be innovative and creative in finding jobs for themselves, cautioning against over-reliance on government jobs, which could result in prolonged joblessness. He acknowledged the efforts of successive governments in creating decent job opportunities and called on faith-based organizations to contribute to job creation initiatives.
