Ablakwa Cancels Planned Welcome Ceremony on Return from UN to Ghana

Accra: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has instructed the cancellation of a planned welcome ceremony organized by the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his return to Ghana from the United Nations.

According to Ghana Web, a social media post made by Ablakwa on Monday, March 30, 2026, revealed that he was aware of a surprise reception arranged at the airport by the ministry. This reception is traditionally held to celebrate significant national achievements.

Ablakwa expressed gratitude for the initiative but has requested management to cancel the plans, emphasizing that the occasion was not suitable for personal celebration. He remarked, "I would have strongly opposed the idea if I had been consulted. This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us."

He also conveyed his appreciation to the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their commitment and contributions to the country's recent diplomatic successes. Ablakwa stressed the importance of continuing to focus on advancing Ghana's interests on the global stage under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
