Adaklu have: Residents of Adaklu Have in the Adaklu District have passionately appealed to Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to urgently restore water supply to the community, which has been without a steady flow for around four years.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Simon Adama, an opinion leader and spokesperson for the community, made the appeal while expressing the severe challenges faced due to the water shortage. He stated that the stand pipes in the community have become redundant, leaving over 1,500 residents dependent on a borehole provided by Compassion International Ghana for the Global Evangelical Church Child Development Centre. The borehole itself is not functioning well, forcing residents to rely on a dam located four kilometers away for their water needs.
Mr. Adama highlighted that this ongoing issue is not only affecting the community's economic activities but is also disrupting the academic pursuits of pupils. He lamented the loss of productive hours each day as residents search for water, which could potentially lead to an outbreak of diseases due to the use of dam water for drinking purposes.
Efforts to address the situation have been ongoing, with residents making multiple visits to GWL offices, but their appeals have not elicited any positive response. Attempts to involve the Adaklu District Assembly in resolving the crisis have also been unsuccessful. Mr. Adama made a plea to Mr. Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive, urging immediate intervention to prevent the situation from escalating into a severe crisis.
Additional checks by the Ghana News Agency revealed that similar challenges are being faced by the residents of Adaklu Vodze, who have been dealing with water shortages for the past three years.
