Accra: Mr Assi©lou F©lix Tanon, the President of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors in Ghana, has reaffirmed the group's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the teaching and learning of French, while strengthening educational, cultural, and economic partnerships. He emphasized that La Francophonie remains a platform for dialogue and collaboration anchored on shared values such as peace, democracy, cultural diversity, and sustainable development.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Tanon made the commitment to commemorate the International Day of La Francophonie on Friday, under the theme: 'Generation Peace: The Contribution of Youth to a More Peaceful World.' This theme underscores the importance of engaging the youth in advancing tolerance, coexistence, and sustainable development. Mr Tanon highlighted the critical role that young people play in promoting peace, dialogue, and social transformation, especially in a global environment marked by increasing challenges and divisions.
Mr Tanon noted that the French language continues to serve as a vital tool for dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity among nations, with over 321 million people worldwide using it to communicate and exchange ideas. He added that the national theme for the celebration, 'Positioning Ghana within the Francophone Space: Language, Partnerships and Opportunities,' reflects the country's commitment to leveraging the benefits of Francophone cooperation.
Ghana's participation in the Francophone Community, following its admission into the International Organisation of La Francophonie in October 2024, marks a significant step in strengthening its engagement with French-speaking countries. Given Ghana's position within a predominantly Francophone region, the learning and use of the French language are strategically important for expanding opportunities in education, trade, diplomacy, and employment.
Mr Tanon assured the Group's continuous work with the Government of Ghana and international partners to promote the French language as a bridge between cultures and a tool for development and peaceful coexistence.
