Bolgatanga: Dr. Joshua Akuu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Organizer for the Western Sydney and New Zealand chapters, has called for a deeper collaboration between the government and the private sector to tackle Ghana's unemployment crisis. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, Dr. Akuu emphasized that the private sector was essential in addressing the rising trend of joblessness, particularly among the youth.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Akuu stressed that the government alone cannot satisfy the public's expectations of job creation. He advocated for a partnership with the private sector to expand the economy and absorb the growing number of unemployed citizens. Dr. Akuu, who is also a businessman, linked the lack of decent employment opportunities to the rise in social vices and illegal mining, commonly known as 'galamsey', and argued that the country must prioritize the private sector by providing tangible support, such as low-interest loans, to help businesses scale.
He observed that while successive governments introduced various employment initiatives, their impact remained limited without active private-sector involvement. This lack of diverse opportunities, he added, often forced young people into career paths they had little interest in.
Turning to politics, Dr. Akuu, a constituent of Builsa North, urged continued support for the Mahama administration to ensure it delivered on its mandate ahead of the 2028 elections. He also petitioned the NDC national leadership to maintain a strong connection with the grassroot supporters who campaigned for the party's 2024 victory.
Praising President John Dramani Mahama's economic stewardship, Dr. Akuu stated that Mahama took a struggling economy and put it back on track, restoring Ghana's glory both locally and internationally. He expressed confidence that if the party continues to deliver on its promises, the next election will be a clear victory.
