Sunyani: Dr Thomas Kyere, a Health Consultant at the Sunyani branch of the 21st Clinic, a facility specialized in sciatica and other health-related diseases, has advised adolescents to avoid unprotected and unhealthy sexual behaviors.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Kyere expressed concern over the alarming rate of new HIV infections spreading in the Sunyani Municipality and other parts of the country. He highlighted that while the virus could be transmitted through various means, unsafe sex remained the primary factor driving the rapid spread of HIV and AIDS.
In an interview conducted in Sunyani, Dr Kyere emphasized that a significant number of people are now living with the virus. He urged individuals unaware of their HIV and AIDS status to voluntarily undergo testing. He stressed that self-protection is the most reliable method against infectious diseases and advised the youth to abstain from premarital sex. However, for those unable to control their sexual desires, he strongly recommended avoiding unprotected sex.
Dr Kyere further noted that adhering strictly to antiretroviral therapy helps protect individuals living with the virus from contracting other related diseases. He encouraged those living with HIV and AIDS to consistently take their medication and undergo regular medical checkups to prolong their lives.
Additionally, Dr Kyere called for intensified awareness campaigns to promote HIV self-testing and to help the public understand the dynamics of HIV and AIDS spread.
