Sunyani: Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has emphasized the need for a strong partnership between the government, faith-based organizations, and local communities to effectively address societal challenges and foster a more inclusive society.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Ibrahim highlighted the importance of these partnerships in promoting community development, human dignity, and moral responsibility. His remarks were made during the installation and induction ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Mothers' Union of the Sunyani Anglican Diocese at St Anselm's Cathedral in Sunyani.
Mr Ibrahim stressed that the government's efforts alone are insufficient to tackle national development challenges, underscoring the necessity of collaboration in building a society that values dignity, opportunity, and moral responsibility. The event, themed 'Chosen, appointed to bear fruit,' saw the induction of a seven-member executive team to lead the diocesan union.
Addressing the attendees, Mr Ibrahim noted the tangible societal benefits leadership can produce, urging leaders to focus on outcomes that benefit the community. He expressed concern over the erosion of communal values that have historically strengthened Ghanaian society, emphasizing a shift from nationalism to individualism and from patriotism to selfishness, which must be collectively combated.
Mr Ibrahim called on the union executives to serve as role models in their communities, promoting integrity, compassion, and unity. He highlighted the integral role mothers play in shaping society and urged them to lead exemplary lives characterized by wisdom, honesty, love, and a shared sense of purpose.
Commending the Mothers' Union for its dedication through prayer, service, and financial contributions, Mr Ibrahim noted the vital role faith-based organizations play in complementing national development efforts. He acknowledged their support in government initiatives related to social protection, gender empowerment, education, and community development.
Mr Ibrahim emphasized that activities such as girl-child education campaigns, health awareness initiatives, support for vulnerable groups, and advocacy for child protection significantly contribute to national development. He stated that women empowerment and health education programs align with the government's broader objectives of inclusive growth and social development.
The Right Reverend Dr Festus Yeboah Asuamah, the Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, encouraged the executives to strive towards achieving the Mothers' Union's broader vision. Mother Belinda Serwaa Addo, the newly elected President, expressed gratitude to the diocese and pledged to work diligently to justify the confidence placed in them for the holistic growth and development of the diocese.
