Sunyani: Miss Cynthia Anima Boadu, the Bono Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has commended Ghanaians for their spirit of patriotism and nationalism. She noted that the love for the nation exhibited during the 69th Independence Anniversary celebration was encouraging and urged citizens to extend such a spirit of love towards development activities to advance national progress.
According to Ghana News Agency, as the nation observed Ghana Month, Miss Boadu remarked in an interview in Sunyani that the voluntary display of national pride during the independence celebration was highly inspirational. She highlighted that the pride of Ghanaians was evident through the widespread wearing of the national colours of red, yellow, and green, as well as souvenirs, indicating a growing love for the nation.
Ms Boadu emphasized that this was a wake-up call for everyone. She observed that this was the period in which individuals were voluntarily wearing national colours, praising Ghanaians for the growing spirit of patriotism. She also noted that many Ghanaians were embracing locally made products like beads, kente cloth, and smock.
Nonetheless, Ms Boadu expressed that patriotic expression should go beyond dressing in national colours and paraphernalia during commemorative occasions. She stated that while celebrating culture through dressing is positive, the focus should extend beyond that. She urged Ghanaians to demonstrate love for the nation through responsible behaviour, such as protecting the environment, rejecting corruption, and supporting national policies and programmes that promote progressive development.
Ms Boadu further mentioned that patriotism should be reflected in citizens' dedication to their professional work and duties. She stressed that diligent work in chosen occupations could elevate the nation's development. She encouraged the citizenry to actively participate in governance and the democratic process, ultimately urging Ghanaians to embrace a sense of responsibility and good conduct to collectively push national development forward.
