Accra: Former Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has addressed claims that he should be arrested and prosecuted by the John Dramani Mahama government for alleged corrupt activities during his tenure. Speaking in a viral video from a recent campaign event, Agyemang-Manu stated that despite predictions of his downfall, he remains unfazed and free.
According to Ghana Web, the former minister, who served over seven years under the NPP government led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, emphasized his resilience despite negative expectations. Agyemang-Manu expressed that he is not desperate or seeking assistance, countering claims that he would face health issues or incarceration under the new government.
Agyemang-Manu remarked, "I'm not that desperate; I have not been crying for help. Some people said either I would fall sick or die, but here I stand. Some said I would be arrested and locked up. A year has passed, and here I stand." He further noted the inevitability of displeasing some people, stating, "In this world, if you are truthful. not every person would like what you are doing."
The former minister was previously anticipated to face legal action for signing a contract for COVID-19 vaccines without parliamentary approval. He reportedly admitted to not seeking cabinet approval before engaging a private individual to procure Sputnik V vaccines to address Ghana's COVID-19 situation.
